for [mess-free] practicing genetics -
no real dogs, no real poop, no euthanasias for severe defects, no C-sections,
no extra-calories for mum + extra-poop to pick-up, no 80-degree room for 5 days, Very Happy...

Gene game? Well I'm not sure if you can call it that, but I go on a wolf-breeding SIM and genetics plays a small role in it ^^ Mainly with markings Embarassed

1 is GMO-DIY, 2 are cloning, and 1 is mutation... leaving just 4 that are actual reproduction.

PostSubject: maximizing gene-diversity   Thu Sep 09, 2010 4:40 pm

maximizing genetic diversity -
http://tinyurl.com/kpofh Zoo Matchmaker

the % of genes each individual shares with the whole-popn shows on a banner
when U slide over the faces of each tiger - choose a F-face from the left
+ a M-face from the right, and 'drop' them onto their body-silhouettes -
the tigers with the MOST-shared genes are at the bottom of the column,
those with the LEAST common-genes at the top.

but U cannot afford to Not Breed all cats below the halfway point -
U would lose far too-many valuable genes.
a cat who shares 15% of their
genes with the tiger-popn as a whole, STILL * HAS 85% unique genes.

after U choose a potential sire + dam, LOOK at the pyramid in the center:
what gene-overlap do these 2 individuals share?

click BREED to produce a litter, click CLEAR to change Ur mind
+ try again. ::thumb-up:: after 4 generations,
how much have things improved - or worsened?
